Parent and Baby Swim Class

Parent and baby swim classes are a great way to introduce your child to the water at a early age.  That’s why we offer private semi-private, and group Parent and Baby Swim Classes.  These classes are for children ages 6 months to 2 years and are designed to introduce your child to the water in a fun and engaging way.  We incorporate safety and swimming drills. We use games, songs, and toys to help your baby swim. The babies become involved in what they are doing. Sometimes they do not even realize they are learning important pre-swimming and swimming skills. Furthermore, the classes are designed to allow a parent to learn the skills necessary to begin to teach their own baby how to swim. The lessons are 30 minutes long. Baby swim classes require at least 1 parent per baby swimming, to enter the water with the swimming instructor.

What Do We Teach?

The lessons begin with basic skills, such as, kicking and blowing bubbles. As the parent gets more comfortable with handling their child in the water we begin submersions in a gentle manner. We do not scare or force the babies (or parents). We then progress to under water distance swimming. Finally, the babies are swimming on their own the width of the pool and getting themselves out. The typical age to get to this point is 2 to 2 1/2 yrs old with summer swimming lessons. Younger babies 8 months to 18 months can usually jump off the steps and swim a few feet to their parent.

Twins

This is a great way to teach twins! Mom, Dad, or both come into the pool with each baby swimming. The instructor works with the parents on the proper holds and movements to help the parent(s) to learn to teach their baby to swim. Consequently, both twins get an equal amount of swimming lesson time with their parent and the instructor. As they get older, they can transition into private or semi-private lessons with the instructor.

Lessons can also be done as a semi-private or group class. It is a great way to get together with your friend or friends on a hot day. Some moms have the baby swim class and then have lunch together. Get a few of your friends together and have a group baby swim class!
